Yoga and meditation continue to rise in popularity in the U.S. so it’s no surprise that more and more people are looking at different ways to deepen their mindfulness practice. Wellness junkies continue to look for different ways to experience different states of relaxation such as participating in sound baths, moving meditations and more. In trying to find a deeper connection between your mind and body, it’s inevitable that you have heard of Yoga Nidra. What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra aims for deep relaxation to soothe the nervous system and reset the body's rhythms. During Nidra, you move into the state of conscious deep sleep where your mind is conscious but your body is in a state of deep relaxation. The goal of Nidra is to bring you into alignment with your truth.

What should I expect?

During Yoga Nidra, you lay down in savasana, but props are encouraged. You will us blankets, bolsters and blocks to prepare your space for comfort because you will be laying down for 30+ minutes depending on the session. You will listen to a voice guiding you through Nidra, this could be a teacher or an online recording. They will lead you through a visualization, intention or some breathwork in order to help guide into an altered state of consciousness.

What are the benefits?

Yoga Nidra focuses on relaxation, stress reduction and reflection. It’s important to practice in a non-judgemental state in order to help you release unnecessary stress, emotions and awaken your subconscious.
